ASLA 2010 Annual Meeting and EXPO
September 10-13, 2009, Washington, DC

The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) is currently accepting education session proposals for the 2010 Annual Meeting and EXPO to be held September 10-13 in Washington, DC at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The theme of the meeting will be Earth Air Water Fire DESIGN.

According to our surveys, the top reason attendees register for the ASLA annual meeting is the outstanding education program. Featuring up to 100 presentations of value to landscape architecture professionals, the education program allows attendees to earn up to 21 professional development hours (PDH) during the course of the meeting.

Instructions for Submitting Presentation Proposals
Using this online submission process, you will be asked to provide speaker contact and credentialing information. You will also need to gather and organize the following components:

Submission Evaluation and Selection
The ASLA Annual Meeting Education Advisory Committee (AMEAC) will review, evaluate and score all submissions using the following criteria:

  • Relevance to the profession of landscape architecture
  • Clearly stated and achievable learning objectives
  • Timeliness of the topic
  • Subject matter appeal
  • Appropriate level of expertise (intermediate, advanced); and
  • Speaker qualifications and past evaluation results (if applicable)

Education Program Format
Education sessions will take place on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, Sept. 10-13:

  • Each education session is 90 minutes in duration. Presenters/panelists should plan to conduct 50-60 minutes of presentation followed by at least 30 minutes of questions and answers with the audience.
  • Panels should consist of three or fewer individuals, not including a moderator.
  • Presentation rooms may accommodate 200 - 500 attendees. ASLA will assign rooms and times based on scheduling needs.

Approved 2010 ASLA Annual Meeting education sessions will be registered with the Landscape Architecture Continuing Education SystemTM (LA CESTM). Visit the LA CES website to learn how to become a LA CES approved provider.

In order to meet the continuing education requirements of a wide range of attendees, ASLA will also register applicable selected sessions with the State of Florida, the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System (AIACES), and American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). ASLA will also pursue provider status with the new U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Continuing Education System.

Policies Governing Accepted Proposals
  1. The lead presenter will serve as the prime point of contact for ASLA staff and is responsible for coordinating with all other presenters involved in a session. All speakers listed on the proposal must be aware that they are being considered, eligible, and willing to participate as a speaker if the program is selected.
  2. All presenters in a session must be included in the original submittal. Speakers may not be changed once a proposal is accepted.
  3. Submissions promoting specific product brands or companies will not be considered.
  4. All presentations must have a visual component that may be projected for all session attendees to view, such as a PowerPoint slideshow or photos, graphs, charts, video, etc.
  5. Selected presenters may be requested to submit additional information if necessary for continuing education program approval.
  6. Handouts are required for each session and must be submitted by

  7. ASLA reserves the right to edit any submitted materials for promotional purposes.
  8. ASLA reserves the right to cancel a session at any time.
  9. ASLA reserves the right to combine similar sessions, change titles and descriptions, or add/change speakers as necessary. You will be notified if there are any required changes and given the opportunity to modify your program accordingly.
  10. Sessions may be scheduled at any time from Friday, September 10, through Monday, September 13, 2009. Speakers must be available to present on any of those days.
  11. Speakers selected to present at the meeting will receive a complimentary full registration ($450 value) and one-night hotel stay ($250 value; ASLA retains the right to assign the hotel). ASLA will not reimburse travel expenses or provide fees or honoraria for education session speakers.

Field session development is contracted to the Potomac Chapter of ASLA, and all online submissions must be made under the advisement of and in coordination with, Mark Gionet, Field Session Coordinator (mgionet@lsginc.com, 703-821-2045).
